First things first, Happy Star Wars Day everyone!
As you guys know, recently I signed with Paper Crane Books to publish my forthcoming novel,
Amanda Moonstone: The Missing Prince, which is the first in what I hope to be a new series of Young Adult/New Adult Fantasy novels - inspired by Disney, Pixar AND some Studio Ghibli movies.
Amanda Moonstone is somewhat of a companion piece to my
Draconica series, set in the world of Draconica. Whilst it is not directly related to the
Draconica series, they do share some common threads and themes. However, it will be a standalone story so you don't have to read my other works to know what's going on.
Here's a little synopsis:
Amanda Moonstone is a sorceress that is down on her luck, struggling to pay the bills, whilst at the same time trying to forget her traumatic past.
Feared and despised by her own people for practicing magic, Amanda has a hard time keeping her anger in check - knowing that it will be bad for everyone if she were to lose her temper again.
When she learns that a young boy (who is the heir to the Celtland throne) has gone missing, and learns of a large cash reward for his safe return, she sets out to
find the lad, claim her reward and pay off all her debts. However, being with the boy brings out, deep, maternal feelings that Amanda thought she had forgot.
This boy may just be the key to undoing the one mistake that has haunted her for over a year.
series, it will also contain interior artwork! I've already shared some art on my blog and on my Facebook page - but I thought today I'd introduce you to the characters of the
series. Art will be done by the immensely talented Snow the Wanderer. Check out her DA page
The protagonist of the novel. A young sorceress just trying to make ends meet. Has a necklace made of dragon gems that give her magic powers. Amanda is a mix of a Disney Princess and the traditional Pixar hero.
The "missing prince" of the title. Hidden from his uncle six years ago, Daryl has recently been discovered. Amanda has to return him to claim her reward. A cheerful, cheeky chap that sees the good in everyone - he may just be the key to help Amanda undo her most terrible mistake.
A moon wolf that becomes a pet to Daryl. I always like to have at least one animal in my stories and this time I've included a wolf. Wolvie is very protective of both Daryl and Amanda - and may have a stronger connection with them than they realize.
The antagonist of the book. A cruel tyrant that rules Celtland with an iron fist and will do anything to keep his reign - even murder! He's based on the traditional Disney villain - he has some humourous moments, but otherwise he's an evil bastard. Just think Scar from The Lion King as a human!
Captain Luthar is Kimera's right hand man - but he hates him and is forced to do horrible things. Torn between honour and duty, Luthar is a somewhat tragic character that is a victim rather than a villain. Technically, I guess you could say he's the "hero" of the piece - but not in the traditional sense.
A being with seemingly godlike powers. I can't reveal too much about him at this point, but let's just say that he has a special "interest" in Amanda. And no - he's not based on me in case you were wondering! He's a sorta mix up of the characters G-Man, Loki and Walter White.
No release date has been set yet, but it will be sometime next year. Follow Paper Crane Books for more updates on the progress of the book and be sure to check out the other amazing authors signed to them.
Happy times ahead I think! Take care and thanks for reading.
Hi guys. Just to give you a little update about Legacy of the Dragonkin - I've been working thoroughly on it these last few weeks and we have a couple more pieces of inked artwork done, which I'd like to share with you today so that you can see the progress of it!
In this one we have Queen Daniar mothering her son, Benji, cleaning him around the face so that he can face his public. As you can see, he's not too happy in his mum embarrassing him! You can also see little Wispy (his talking cat pet) having a little chuckle. It's one of the more cuter pictures in the new book.
An original pencil image was originally shown on my sponsume campaign video, but we changed the angle somewhat as this looked better, my artist felt.
Next one is a little darker than the last! Here we have Lydia Taurok, who was just a kid in Trapped on Draconica, but now she's grown up and is a warrior in her grandfather's empire. Here, she is facing the Kthonian Knight Abyss - who has the power to make your worse fear come to life. And she is making Lydia see her worst fear. You may also see her pet bear Tub Tub in the background, burning in fire. Lydia holds a dark secret - and Abyss is making her worst fears come true.
More to follow - but don't forget you can still sponsor this book by going to the link below. Every little helps! I am working hard on this book as well as another book that will be released before this one - so I am keeping busy with the writing!
That's all for the moment, folks! See you later in the week!

Legacy of the Dragonkin
Hey guys. Hope you are all enjoying the extended Bank Holiday Weekend (those in the United Kingdom that is). Today I thought I'd treat you guys to some more teaser artwork for Legacy of the Dragonkin, which is gradually getting prepared for the 2012 release.
Below is a little piece that is actually a completed piece of artwork (i.e inked) for your viewing pleasure. This is a new idea for some "comic book" layouts that will be appearing in the next book. Artwork is by Alexis M Centeno.
You may be wondering what's going on here. Basically, in the scene, Zarracka (in her "black ice" form - it will make sense in the book) is using her new and improved ice breath against Mordak and pummeling him with ice shards. And for those who thought that Mordak was dead in Trapped on Draconica - you may be wondering how he survived. Well all will become clear in the next book!
There will be a few pages like this in the next book as a way of adding a bit more action orientated pictures in it. The single pics will still be used, but this is a new thing that I'm trying out.
Please feel free to leave a comment below to let us know what you think. I'll be posting some teaser chapters for it very soon. In the meantime, you can also check out my other works at the following links (don't you just love shameless self promotions?
Trapped on Draconica, The Wandering Valkyr and All Hail Emperor Gothon
Thanks for reading. Check back on Wednesday when we'll be having a VERY special guest blog from a talent author. Check back to find out who!
Because you guys liked my last picture I put up (of Wispy the cat) from Legacy of the Dragonkin, I decided to show a little teaser of the main hero in the book.
Benji Dragonkin is the son of Daniar Dragonkin, the heroine of Trapped on Draconica (what do you mean you haven't read it yet? Shame on you!). He aspires to be a hero just like his mother and the second book basically involves him getting into scrapes. But he has a heroic fight at the end. He is named after Ben, the hero of Trapped on Draconica.
Benji is modelled after a lot of young heroes in shonen manga - such as Naruto, Yugi Moto and the like (although hopefully not as annoying!) I put him in to give the young adult readers a hero character and someone they can relate to. Much like his mother, he has a strong sense of duty and desire to do good - but he is a little naive on the ways to be warrior. Hopefully you guys will like him.
Next week I'm going to show an example of an artwork piece that features in the prologue of the book. Until then, keep checking back for more.
Also, I made a slight alteration on my "One Year On" blog. Check it out in the featured section (to your right ----->) to learn more.
Until then, catch you guys later.

Another little teaser for you lovely people from my up and coming novel Legacy of the Dragonkin - now due for release Feburary 2013! Today, I'm going to showcase one of the new characters in the book - Wispy the Grimalkin.
Wispy is the new pet to Daniar Dragonkin and her family. She is of the race grimalkin, a race of talking cats. In the novel she acts as the voice of reason to the protagonist (his design to follow), but he often ignores her.
Wispy was put in to appeal to some of the younger readers. Even though my book will be intended more for the young adult readers, I do like to include characters that appeal to all ages groups where possible. That and I just LOVE cats. In fact, I think the running theme with any of my books is that I try to put a cat in somewhere. In fact the inspiration behind Wispy was my own cat.
I also wanted to showcase this to demonstrate the different levels that my artist Alexis M Centeno can draw. Most of the images I've showcased from her have her drawing strong, heroic and fantastical creatures. Wispy is a more down to earth design and adds a "chibi" effect to the book. I think it's always good to showcase the different styles an artist can do. In fact, I have plans to possibly release a childrens book about Wispy in the future - once I get round to finish the million other novellas I have planned!
Next week I'll have a design for the protagnoist of the story - and in later weeks some sample chapters!
Until then, have a great week!
